Romax team supporting Reach to improve their therapeutic garden for people with learning disabilities

A group of 13 people from Romax Technology spent a day supporting Reach Learning Disability: the charity supports over 200 people with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire by running social activities, courses and projects to help people get the life they want in their own community.

The Romax team helped out at Flower Pod, a cut flower garden on the Brackenhurst Campus just outside Southwell who provides horticultural, craft and floristry activities to clients of all ages, for therapeutic, educational and social benefits. As a social enterprise it grows and sells cut flowers to order, as well as petal confetti and other craft products to help sustain client activities. The team used the day to help clear two pond areas so that they can be used for rainwater harvesting, as part of the project’s larger sustainability plan.

Jane Hufton of Reach said ‘We are always delighted to host teams for volunteering days. It enables us to get big jobs done in maintaining and developing the site that would otherwise be impossible for our clients and the small team of staff. Wherever they come from, corporate volunteers always bring invaluable skills with them and make a tangible impact. Our clients love to show visitors what they get up to and it’s a great way for us to spread the word about the important work of Flower Pod and Reach Learning Disability.’

Rhys Jones, Romax Technology ‘Reach is a fantastic local initiative, we are pleased to be able to offer our help on the day and raise awareness for this great charity. Romax Technology supports all employees by offering paid opportunities to spend their time supporting charities that are important to individuals.’

Across the year, Romax puts in place a flexible but active CSR strategy for its employees, which covers everything from employees who are STEM ambassadors, major cycling and marathon events, from picking an annual chosen charity – this year’s charity is the Lincs and Nottingham Air Ambulance, where monthly fund-raising events will be promoted throughout the company. Our colleagues in global offices also have their own strategies which are centred around reactions to important issues to them:
