New Interface from JMAG to Romax Spectrum and Romax Evolve

29/10/2019

At Romax, we know that it is crucial to be able to move between electromagnetic and mechanical simulation, using a combined physics simulation methodology to target failure mechanisms that could present critical issues. We are proud to announce that we have expanded our partnership ecosystem to include an interface from JMAG software to Romax Spectrum and Romax Evolve.

JMAG is an industry-standard FEA software tool which can be used for electric and hybrid vehicle development, including applications such as motors, generators, transformers, solenoids and actuators. It provides electric machine designers with dedicated tools for state of the art modelling and high speed and high accuracy solving and meshing. Primarily, it is a tool for electromagnetic simulation, but users can also run electrostatic, structural and thermal simulation. Different types of analysis can also be coupled, to run multi-physics simulation in the same application.

This new workflow allows users to exchange NVH excitation data through a single transfer file from JMAG into Romax Evolve and Romax Spectrum. This easy and reliable method simplifies the process, minimises data handling and reduces the risk of human error.

Once in Romax software, users can perform structural and NVH analysis of the electrical machine (in Romax Evolve), or incorporate the electrical machine into a complete parametric model of the powertrain for full system NVH simulation (in Romax Spectrum). As an extension, both Romax Evolve and Romax Spectrum interface to Romax Acoustic Analysis capabilities, to provide sound power and sound pressure calculations of the radiated noise.

Through this integrated workflow, users can access a CAE-led design approach to make engineering decisions early in the design process.

To learn more about the interface, attend our upcoming webinar, ‘NVH analysis of an electric vehicle traction motor with JMAG and Romax software’. Don’t worry if you miss it, it will be available on demand after the event.
