Romax Celebrates 20 Years of Engineering Excellence
This year marks our 20th anniversary. Established in 1989 by world bearing expert Dr S. Y. Poon, MBE, Romax Technology is a leading name in transmission consultancy. During 2009 we will be announcing a number of activities that will form its anniversary celebrations.
Romax has been providing engineering services and advanced software for drivetrains, gearboxes and bearings to the automotive, off-highway, aerospace and heavy industries for 20 years. The company has worked with the worlds leading automotive OEM’s and tier one suppliers to provide efficient and effective gearbox and drivetrain services to their specifications and more recently they have been working with leading names in the wind energy industry.
We recently won one of Britain’s most coveted commercial awards, the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade for 2009. This is the second time the we have received this honour, which is recognised both nationally and internationally as a mark of quality and success in the fields of international trade, innovation and sustainable development. It is yet another demonstration of how we are leading the field.

I am so proud that Romax is celebrating such a huge milestone and also at the progress we have made during these twenty years,” said Dr Poon, Chief Executive and founder of Romax Technology. “Our vision has always been to push back the frontier of engineering software technology through continuous investment, innovation and the exceptional talents of our technical specialists and software development team and I believe this is exactly what we have been doing and indeed what we will continue to do every day. Our innovation today is the world’s mainstream tomorrow.”
Our customers not only come from many different industries but there are many that are also internationally recognised brands such as Hyundai, Hyosung, NTN and Getrag Ford.
Dr. Young-Hun Lim, Chief Research Engineer, Automobile Parts Research Dept, WIA Corp. spoke about their relationship with Romax Technology, saying, “WIA aims to develop high capacity, low noise transmissions and axles and Romax Technology has not only met our engineers’ needs of integrated modelling and analysis through it’s advanced software, but has also saved us a huge amount of time and resources, which will help us to achieve an improved product, a faster system, a more efficient service and an advanced technology.”
The company has a number of activities planned including staff volunteering on a number of local projects in the Nottinghamshire community, support of Romax staff who are taking part in a rally race to raise money for the Christina Noble Children’s Fund (CNCF) as well as collaborations with top universities and the British Gear Association. There will also be a special 20th Anniversary edition of the Company magazine that will include an exclusive interview with Dr Poon.
Romax Technology currently employs more than 110 people worldwide and has offices located in the UK, France, Germany, USA, Korea, Japan, China and India. With plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for CAE/CAD in India, to further develop our unique energy flow analysis, and to continue to advance our innovative NVH technology, we remain confident we will continue to be at the forefront of the industry for another twenty years.
