Romax success in Taiwan – 2MW gearbox design for TECO
Romax Technology are to design a 2MW wind turbine gearbox for TECO’s exclusively licensed AMSC Windtec FC-2000 wind turbine, as well as providing crucial manufacturing and certification support. The contract follows Romax’s successful technical seminar and test rig design project with ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) in Taiwan.

With a strong manufacturing base, Taiwan is quick to recognise the opportunity for investing in wind energy manufacturing to satisfy demand at home and abroad. The Bureau of Energy under the Ministry of Economic Affairs has set a target of renewable energy contributing to 10% of Taiwan’s overall electricity generation by 2010, and wind power is expected to make up to 80% of that renewable energy contribution, and TECO are the latest company to take up the supply chain challenge.
TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd. was established in 1956 as a local motor manufacturer. The company has since grown to a global organisation with offices in Europe, Asia, North America, Middle East and Africa with a fully diversified product portfolio of automation and motor products. TECO are taking full advantage of the current opportunities in wind energy and has ambitions to be the largest turbine manufacturer in Taiwan.
