UKTI and SMMT Chinese Powertrain Delegation visit Romax Technology

The Department of UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), in collaboration with The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited (SMMT) recently organised a return visit for a delegation of Chinese businessmen from major OEMs involved in powertrain to visit a series of UK companies to learn more about powertrains and network with UK engineers. Romax Technology, who visited China at the end of last year as part of the same programme, welcomed the Chinese delegation to its UK headquarters this month.

Romax Technology hosted the visitors for an afternoon and gave a series of presentations on a number of topical and current issues in powertrain engineering technology. Romax engineers presented topics on NVH and hybrid as well as discussing why NVH is important and the Romax approach to NVH. Romax also delivered an overview on the hybrid market place and outlined its range of technical solutions for hybrid including their detailed energy flow analysis for hybrid vehicles. To complete the presentations Romax explored a number of case studies to highlight its work.

Representatives from some of China’s leading companies took part in the visit including Vice President of the Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co (GAIC). Founded in 2000, GAIC has risen to fourth place amongst Chinese automobile manufacturers, producing 510,000 vehicles and 890,000 motorcycles in 2007. Also part of the delegation was the Automotive R&D Centre for Chongqing Lifan Industry Group. In 16 years Lifan has grown to become one of China’s largest private-owned enterprises, with sales income in excess of £1 billion. Lifan motorcycles are sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, and have passed accreditation for both the European and Japanese markets.

“Being involved with the UKTI and having the opportunity to network with leading Chinese companies is very important to Romax,” explained Barry James, Transportation Engineering Manager, from Romax Technology. “After visiting China at the end of last year we were pleased to welcome back the visitors to our offices and be able to share with them some of our latest work in the areas of hybrid and NVH.”

Since the delegation took place, Romax has already held further technical discussions with a number of the Chinese Companies involved. Romax is positive about the future and looking forward to furthering their relationship with such companies.
