Romax successfully hold their 7th European Summit 2012

On 16 and 17 October in Frankfurt, Germany, representatives from Romax’s customer base of automotive and off-road OEMs and tier one suppliers throughout Europe, gathered together to hear Romax present their latest simulation technology developments.

To kick off the Summit, Robert Bolam, former Managing Director of BWM Hams Hall, UK, delivered a remarkable keynote speech titled, ‘Design, Innovation and Economics – Key Change Agents in the Automotive Industry’. The speech was a personal view of the changes in the automotive and related industries based on Bolam’s 40 years of experience. Bolam reviewed and analysed changes, many of which he experienced personally, and proposed patterns which aimed to identified the underlying causes of change while giving clues to what changes we may see in the future.

One of the major highlights of the Summit, as expressed by attendees, was hearing from companies like Volkwagen, Renault, PSA, Alstom and Klingelnberg who presented their latest achievements in the field of simulation for improved transmission efficiency and improved transmission NVH.

There were many highlights of the Summit, but one of the most notable and exciting was the official launch of Romax’s new product, Concept R1.0. Dr. Jamie Pears, Product Manager at Romax, launched Concept and provided delegates with an exclusive demonstration of its capabilities and features.  The all new Concept product is a revolutionary new concept design software package will dramatically increases speed, quality, creativity and innovation when designing concept gearboxes and drivelines.

On the afternoon of the second day, Dean Slavnich, Editor of Engine Technology International, hosted and moderated Romax’s first panel discussion. The topic selected was transmission efficiency, because of its significance in today’s automotive industry. Experts in the field of transmission efficiency, Artur Grunwald, GKN Driveline International GmbH, Frank Seibicke, Klingelnberg and Maik Hoppert, Romax Technology discussed four key topics surrounding automotive transmission efficiency, providing an overview on measurement vs prediction, method analysis, design solutions and drive cycle influences.

Overall, a very interesting Summit, which provided great opportunities for discussion of today’s key topics and new technologies in automotive simulation technology. Delegates were really impressed with our Summit and provided great feedback. With such a varied and comprehensive programme, customer application studies and Romax technology developments, delegates were able to get a feel for the extent to which RomaxDesigner and Concept can be used in a variety of areas.
