Romax founder Dr. Peter Poon MBE, recognised for achievements in driving software design and innovation by University of Nottingham

Dr. Peter Poon MBE, the Founder and President of Romax Technology has been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Nottingham which was presented at the university’s graduate ceremony on Tuesday 8 December.

A world-leading expert on rolling bearings, Dr. Poon’s recognition is in light of his sustained commitment to driving innovation across Romax as well as wider engineering services. Having founded Romax in 1989 Dr. Poon has worked alongside the world’s leading transmission and engineering companies, providing high value consulting services and developing bespoke software solutions. It’s this level of commitment and passion which has allowed Romax to cement its position as a market leader when it comes to developing software for the design, analysis and optimisation of transmissions and drivelines for the automotive, bearings, wind energy, off road, rail, marine and aerospace sectors.

Romax has also undertaken Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with the university, as well as collaborating on major research projects and providing placement and full-time employment opportunities for university students, with graduate fairs held in Nottingham and further afield to not only retain but attract the brightest minds to the region.

Dr. Poon commented: “We have enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the University of Nottingham and the East Midlands which has provided us with many opportunities to work alongside strategic partners on the latest innovations, technologies and processes. We are currently, further deepening our technology partnership with the UoN which is taking us in exciting new areas. As a region the East Midlands is really flourishing, strengthening its position as a world renowned centre of excellence and innovation. Investment in the region is creating jobs and building an environment for even more growth and success in the future. It is important that we continue to sustain this upward curve and believe that our relationship with the university is central to this. I am genuinely flattered by the university’s recognition and look forward to continue engaging with them on new and exciting projects.”

Professor Sir David Greenaway, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, said: “I am delighted that the University is bestowing an honorary degree on Dr. Poon, it is thoroughly deserved due to all that he has achieved. Romax Technology is a world class business and a significant local employer, and Dr. Poon has always valued the partnership that his company has with the University. Romax now has its world headquarters based on our Innovation Park, and our links with the company are stronger than ever before. Over the years we have worked very closely with Romax on several research projects and I know that they have also employed many of our graduates. I wish Dr. Poon the very best and hope that our special relationship with his company continues long into the future.”
