Recent Wind Turbine Failures and their Root Cause

Wind turbines are more reliable than ever as common problems have been identified and solved. However, a growth in technological innovation has seen new challenges emerge for rotating machinery.

In order to meet these challenges head-on, Romax InSight continues to investigate why turbine components fail and to identify solutions. Conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) not only helps wind farm owners reduce the risk of future failure and improve their turbine health, it also leads to continuous improved design and manufacturing standards.

We spoke to Wind Energy Network about two recent typical wind turbine failures we investigated (pinion and blade bearing failures), the cause identified by our RCA services, and the solution.
