Ryerson University uses Romax Aero software to further aerospace research

03/12/2019

Broadening horizons by accessing Romax software, Romax Technology through Americas partner AMP will be supporting Ryerson University in progressing its academic research projects in aircraft electrification.

Ryerson University based in Toronto, Canada, is one of only two Universities that offer an accredited Aerospace program in Ontario, where advancing aerospace research and innovation are at its core. The University will be able to use Romax’s world leading software that will provide them with state-of-the-art analytical tools to further their research in the areas of; electric propulsion, gear propulsion and electric actuation. These tools will enable modelling and simulation of new driveline concepts to predict system behavior at a fundamental and detailed level from the e-machine to all the driven components in the driveline.

Dr Fengfeng (Jeff) Xi who leads the research at Ryerson University on aircraft flight controls quotes; “We are very excited to use Romax software along with AMP’s support to research the potential electrical actuation of a morphing winglet to provide a complete fly-by-wire control method for this aircraft wingtip device, which now becomes movable in order to improve the aerodynamics performance throughout the entire flight mission.”

Romax AERO through its combination of engineering services and software work with many organizations in the aerospace sector, on applications such as the design and development of turbofans, electric actuators and other projects that look to maximize efficiency, improve quality and adhere to safety measures whilst meeting stringent manufacturing targets.

In order to do this, specialized products are needed that support designers to find a new way of working to optimise their design and development process, tools that are easy to use but can also suit specific users whilst integrating with a wider CAE ecosystem. Of the upmost importance is that the tools are accurate, trustworthy and reliable and provide results fast.

Ryerson University is one of many academic institutions that form part of the Romax Eco-system, a partnership programme managed by Romax that provides over 100 partners with next generation technology engineering.
