System Dynamics shines at HxGN D&E Live 2021
Earlier this month, we were thrilled to be a part of Hexagon’s Design & Engineering Live 2021, a virtual event promising the ultimate exploration of design and engineering for smart manufacturing, and the largest CAE event ever held within the D&E business unit.
While the main event was held over three days (12th-14th October), satellite activities before, during and after built the sense of occasion and event community. From 4th-10th October we encouraged colleagues and customers to warm up for the event with our Strava Sports Challenge, before we met with specially invited executives and analysts in Malaga on the eve of the conference. A PR briefing took place during the middle of the conference, and the event was closed by a training day featuring nearly 50 demos and workshops.
All in all it was a momentous event, with other 200 presentations including plenary talks and dedicated track sessions. We had high attendance with thousands of interested engineers joining us from all over the globe. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect and engage with the global CAE industry, to hear from our own experts and thought leaders and to listen to blue chip companies talk about critical issues they are facing and the future of their industry. Illustrating the breadth of our solutions and speaking on a wide range of issues, presentations came from, among others, Coca Cola, Facebook, Johnson & Johnson, AWS, Valeo and Stellantis.
As well as aiming to bring the industry together, D&E Live also saw the announcement of new structure and growth plans. Hexagon’s CAE offering is now defined as eight ‘Centres of Excellence’ (CoE), which group its portfolio of leading CAE tools by customer-defined goals. Romax partners with Adams to form the System Dynamics CoE, working together to apply unparalleled insight to movement and system-level interactions, from supporting ePowertrain and rotating machinery design to predicting durability and NVH. Together, we empower world-class companies to conduct CAE-led design, development, and optimization of complex products, via collaborative multi-physics tools.
Each CoE had curated a track of presentations at D&E Live, and we were very proud to welcome some fantastic presentations from System Dynamics, all of which can now be viewed on demand. Chris Baker, our CoE Head, kicked off our track with an introduction to System Dynamics, to which Ian Hogg and Dr Jamie Pears circled back on the last day with their roadmaps for Adams and Romax, respectively. In aerospace, Airbus spoke about using Adams for aircraft sensor component analysis, and TR Transmission spoke about using Romax Aero to develop a helicopter whirl tower drive system. On the eMobility side, Dana presented on using Romax for system level design of an eAxle, and Adrian Technologies showed their use of Romax Energy to analyse component efficiencies in a hybrid powertrain. Our research projects were well represented, with presentations from Cenex (How will autonomous mobility services affect the future powertrain?), and our own Head of Research and Innovation, Barry James. Several presentations spoke to process automation and optimization, including from Mahindra and Lucid, while Ford, JLG, Prometech, Pratt Miller, Navistar, Portescap, MTS Systems, University of Bristol, and KITECH all presented on a range of topics and applications.
We closed off the event with a training day on Friday, which was again rich with System Dynamics content. With dedicated sessions on each of the Romax products in the portfolio, as well as sessions on Adams and its links with Easy 5, modeFRONTIER and Simlab, as well as the much-anticipated Adams Modeler, there’s something for everyone. If you missed it live, check it all out on demand.
We would like to thank everyone who attended exhibited or presented at our event – we look forward to seeing you again for an even bigger event next year!
