Services provided: examine the causes of bearing failures and review the analyses carried out previously by other companies/consultants. Our experts identified failure modes that indicated bearing misalignment was causing the problems; assembly tolerance errors had resulted in abnormal loading that previous analyses had not identified.
Design Review
Requirement: assessment of bearing supplier
Services provided: assess whether the supplier’s product is suitable for the application including analysing the risk of changing supplier, reviewing the quality benchmarking carried out against the current supply, using measured input data for the analysis, auditing and developing the supplier’s manufacturing processes to meet the product quality requirements. We enabled this client to reduce costs by 18%.
Design Review
Requirement: full assessment of dual clutch transmission (DCT) design
Services provided: lubrication and assembly assessment, examination of gear misalignment and load distribution factors, FE analysis of gearbox housing and shift forks, NVH assessment including review of gear micro-geometry, transmission error sensitivity analysis and prediction of mode shapes. We provided notable design changes to the transmission concept to improve gear and bearing durability.
