What’s new in Romax 2022?
- 2D Gearbox Modelling Worksheet: a new system-level worksheet with drag-and-drop tools, allowing intuitive, fast modelling which is easy-to-use, even for beginners and non-experts.
- Support for Gear Data Exchange – Import/Export: cylindrical gear tooth flank measurement data can be imported using the Gear Data Exchange (GDE) open format. The gears can then be analysed using micro-geometry and GBTE to evaluate tooth contact results and to assess system level performance, augmenting the insight that gear measurement can provide compared to traditional approaches that treat the gear in isolation. Macro- and micro-geometry parameters can also be exported in GDE format, to be imported into other software tools and thus save time and minimise errors from manual data re-entry.
- Romax-to-Adams Export Functionality: Romax models can be exported in a format that can be imported into Adams. This allows transmission and ePowertrain models to be easily created in Romax and then transferred to Adams to be included in system-level simulations. It also means the same ePowertrain model can be used for static and steady-state dynamic analysis (Romax) and transient, non-linear analysis (Adams).
- JMAG-Express Online Integration: JMAG-Express Online can now be opened from within the Romax environment, so users can generate an electric machine design and import the machine geometry directly into the Romax model as part of an early-stage structural analysis.
- Support for ISO 6336-20/21:2017 Gear Scuffing Calculations: changes have been made to scuffing calculations as part of continuously updating standards to support gear design processes.
- Parametric Study and Batch Running Improvements: new actions, targets and results available for gears, bearings and to allow genetic algorithms to be used for full gearbox optimisations.

“Romax Enduro is helping us to tackle the current challenges faced by the wind market. We are able to create a virtual representation of the gear system and the test environment. This means, firstly, that we can fine tune our micro geometry to achieve an optimized load distribution on the gear flank and in the gear root over a wide torque range, and, secondly, that we can detect noise risks early in the design process and identify design measures to mitigate those risks.”
“Using Romax’s unique set of software tools, we’ve been able to create a seamless design process with the Romax software suite at its core. We have been taking our ideas to market in record time, testing and incorporating new technology easily, as well as ensuring targets are met for durability, efficiency, and compliance.”
